Summary of the role

As a member of the hydraulic engineering team, the Hydraulic Project Engineer plays a central technical role on all hydraulic aspects of projects, from the preliminary design phase to execution at site, through model testing.

Responsibilities
  • Work with hydraulic design engineers and in collaboration with mechanical engineering to ensure seamless project execution, while respecting the technical requirements of the project;
  • Communication with internal and external clients regarding hydraulic engineering aspects;
  • Active participation in model testing in our laboratories in Europe;
  • Participate as hydraulic expert for cavitation inspections and performance test witness at power plant sites across Canada;
  • Monitoring of budgets and schedules for the development of hydraulic turbine passages, for new machines and rehabilitation projects;
  • Perform transient analysis;
  • Direct involvement with the hydraulic laboratory team in Linz, Austria for the development of model turbines;
  • Support and contribution to the definition and development of hydraulic engineering processes.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's degree desirable;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in hydro engineering;
  • Creativity, problem solving skills, and demonstrated consistent attention to detail;
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment and excellent communication skills (oral & written);
  • Self-directed and proven leadership skills;
  • Available to travel across Canada, US and Europe for periods generally limited to a few days, totalizing up to approximately 20% of annual work time;
  • Fluency in French and English – spoken and written.
