The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option. Please note, this does not apply for school based positions.

In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible for providing administrative and clerical assistance to the disability management team and assist employees under the disability management program.

Main Activities
  • To process invoices, prepare invoice spreadsheets for Accounting, and identify and address issues as necessary.
  • To prepare and send Long Term Disability (LTD) application kits to employees who are on leave accessing their sick days/short term disability.
  • To enter OTIP and OMERS correspondence into HR reporting systems such as Parklane, for employee files.
  • To fulfil lawyer request for release of employee information and complete Life Waiver applications as requested by Canada Life.
  • To track depletion calculations and short-term disability usage for reporting and payroll purposes.
  • To complete Low Balance weekly reports to ensure all employees depleting sick leaves are captured.
  • To track and review STAR absences and ensure correct coding is entered by staff. Assists staff with absence coding and verification using e-school solutions and investigating errors and request entries.
  • To provide backup and assistance for Long Term Disability Representatives, as required.
  • To support the P/VP sick leave adjudication process by reviewing reports and communicating with Payroll and Staff Absences as necessary.
  • To monitor the Disability Management shared inbox and store electronic medical files received.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
  • A two-year college diploma in human resources management or a related discipline is required or equivalent, as approved by the Board.
  • Minimum one-year human resources or related experience is required.
Leadership
  • Supervision or guidance is not an expectation of this role.
  • Responsible for sharing knowledge and information to Board staff in the area of disability management, including LTD benefits and the application process.
  • Communicates private and confidential information with individuals and groups within and outside of the Board as it relates to disability management processes.
Accountability & Decision Making
  • Accountable for responding to legal requests from lawyers, insurance companies and employees while maintaining confidentiality and obtaining authorization from employees.
  • Responsible for monitoring the low balance report for sick leave balances to ensure employees depleting sick leave days are captured and processed correctly.
  • Engages with Accounting Services to ensure accuracy and timeliness of processing invoices.
  • Decisions made can have an impact on information provided for legal requests and processing of invoices.

Important Information For CUPE 1734 Members

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the job description for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis, in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.
