The Program

Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services.

Taproot Community Support Services’s Home To Stay provides personal supports to clients in their own homes and specializes in services such as personal care, housekeeping, companionship, community connections, advocacy, and family support. The Home to Stay program has been providing support to people with many different needs since 2013. Taproot staff are trained in many aspects of health care and our experience allows for flexibility in supports and ensures individuals in our care are safe.

We ensure the supports you receive meet your needs. We’re available twenty‑four hours a day, 7 days a week. We encourage feedback to help ensure the right caregiver and supports are in place allowing the client to feel safe and comfortable with their caregiver and services.

The Position

The Home Care Support Worker will follow an Individual Care Plan while providing personal care and home support services to a female with limited physical abilities. This includes providing home‑based cleaning and personal care to assist person served with the activities of daily living within varied settings to promote maximum independence as well as observe and document on client’s health condition and environment. The Home Care Support Worker reports to the Program Manager.

Scheduling
  • One (1) permanent part‑time position available with a flexible/variable weekly schedule of 15‑20 hours per week, based upon the needs and requirements of the person receiving service.
In Your Role You Will
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, sweep and mop floors, cleaning, make beds, garbage removal and laundry.
  • Assist clients with daily living such as hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, bathing, tube feeding, meal planning and preparation.
  • Provide am or pm bedside care.
  • Administer medications to clients according to established policies and procedures.
  • Follow prescribed Individual Care Plans.
  • Maintain records such as logbooks and daily activities relating to clients.
  • Assist in the evaluation of service deliverables and contribute information and recommendations toward improvements to the program.
  • Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
  • A certificate in one of the humanities, social sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of six (6) months in a similar facility or program.
  • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
  • Experience with basic sign language and/or alternative communication strategies training or experience an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Reliable, safe vehicle with appropriate insurance.
