Heavy Equipment and Automotive Technician
We are hiring on behalf of a diverse mechanic shop located in Dawson City, Yukon. The shop is licensed to maintain and repair vehicles of all sizes, including heavy-duty vehicles and RVs. We are seeking several Heavy Equipment and/or Automotive Technicians.
- Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical maintenance on various equipment, including diesel, LPG, electric, and gas units.
- Program, update, and calibrate onboard control systems.
- Diagnose, service, troubleshoot, and repair mobile and stationary equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.
- Order parts and shop supplies as needed.
- Collaborate with manufacturers' online support.
- Maintain shop tools such as pressure washers, air compressors, forklifts, etc.
- Heavy equipment operating experience is an asset.
Additional Tasks:
- Comply with CIM, WCB, and OH&S policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Perform daily duties safely to maintain a safe workplace.
- Use all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Complete daily time cards accurately.
- Perform general housekeeping around the shop and company vehicles.
- Assist colleagues in other departments when required.
- Participate in scheduled training and educational opportunities.
Working Conditions:
- The position is primarily based in Dawson City, with potential call-outs to surrounding areas.
- Summer camp work may be available during the production season.
- Work involves indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to adverse weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from +25°C to over +30°C in summer and as low as -40°C in winter.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Red Seal Certification or current registration in a related Apprenticeship program (Level 3+).
- Ability to lift heavy objects over 50 lbs.
- Work safely at heights above 6 feet.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
- Effective interaction with customers and the public.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude, analysis, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to perform complex electrical and mechanical tasks on motorcycles, automotive, heavy-duty equipment, and marine electrical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of automotive and heavy-duty mechanical practices, methods, tools, and materials.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance and regeneration systems.
- Adaptability to changing priorities.
- Heavy equipment operation skills are an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Yukon Driver's Licence or equivalent; Class 3 with air endorsement, CVIP, TDG, and WHMIS certifications to be obtained within 6 months.
- Overseas applicants should have 5-10 years of verifiable post-qualification experience, relevant certification, and a clean driving record with air brakes.
- Preference for candidates who are Canadian citizens or have military heavy-duty automotive experience.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Additional considerations for working in Dawson City, Yukon:
- Reimbursement of economy airfare, travel, and hotel expenses upon receipt, with airfare arranged after acceptance.
- Work hours are typically 9 am to 5 pm, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Company-provided accommodation includes three meals per day, internet, and TV, at a below-market rent of $2000/month plus 5% GST.
- Medical benefits are available for the employee and Canadian resident dependents after a 3-month probation period.
