Overview

Position Title: Health, Safety and Security Advisor

ONxpress Transportation Partners (ONxpress) were chosen by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to enter the Development Phase of the On-Corridor Works project – the largest project in Metrolinx’s GO Expansion.

Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, this multi-billion-dollar capital program will transform the GO regional rail network with electrification, more frequent service, shorter journey times and a more modernized system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Responsibilities
  • Hazard Assessment and Management: Conduct comprehensive hazard assessments of construction sites and implement measures to mitigate health, safety and security risks to ensure the safety of all workers and visitors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by local authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Training and Education: Provide training sessions and educational materials to construction workers and site managers on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Supporting Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses on construction sites, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Ensure all incidents are accurately documented and reported as per regulatory requirements.
  • Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites to assess compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
  • Safety Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop site-specific health and safety plans for construction projects. Support the implementation of these plans, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary to ensure ongoing safety throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a heavy civil construction Health and Safety position.
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Completed or working towards a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset.
  • A valid G-class driver's license is a must.
  • Experience working on rail construction projects is an asset; familiarity with rail construction terminology.
  • Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, and legislation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to project management teams, subcontractors, and clients as required.
  • Ability to respond to unanticipated events.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
