DataNB

DataNB is a research institute at the University of New Brunswick and the sole provincial administrative data repository in New Brunswick. We house privacy-protected population-level data, which we use to conduct research that supports informed policy- and decision making to promote the health and social prosperity of New Brunswickers. DataNB offers consultation and research services to a variety of stakeholders such as the government different departments, NGOs and academic researchers in different research streams like education, health and economic policy research. In order to conduct this research services, DataNB follows specific steps and procedures in privacy management, data access, data analysis, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Research Manager, the Analyst supports researchers in all aspects of a research project. This includes planning, coordination and execution of qualitative research initiatives - including data collection, analysis and reporting and report writing. Health Research analysts also complete data validation and accuracy of DataNB's data and supports mixed methods research and evaluation projects.

  • Develop and manage assigned tasks related to research and evaluation projects in collaboration with research leads.
  • Oversee the overall project management including timelines of your assigned tasks.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of new research and evaluation initiatives.
  • Assist with the development of study protocols, data measures, data creation plans, and analytic plans.
  • Assist GNB departments and external agencies in preparing data sets to move to DataNB repository.
  • Clean, manage and analyze large provincial administrative databases and primary collected or qualitative data; identify and advise on data limitations, and collaborate with GNB and DataNB staff on solutions to overcoming those limitations.
  • Complete data stewardship functions, including data validation to ensure its accuracy.
  • Create and update reference guides for data sets and/or interview guides for qualitative studies.
  • Assist researchers in the development of study protocols, data measures, data creation plans, and analytic plans.
  • Assist researchers in the preparation of forms required for access to DataNB data.
  • Output, interpret, and communicate study results with project team and external stakeholders verbally and in writing.
  • Contribute to writing research reports and scientific manuscripts for academic publication.
  • Prepare analytic qualitative data sets, and conduct and interpret data analyses using population-based administrative, clinical registry and survey data
  • Liaise with DataNB stakeholders as needed for consultation, presentation of results, and research and evaluation development.
  • Liaise with external stakeholder organizations and deliver presentations, as needed, on projects in their research portfolio.
  • Contribute to writing research reports and scientific manuscripts for academic publication.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of new research initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and production of the DataNB strategic plan.
What You Bring
  • A Graduate Degree in Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences, Biostatistics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in manipulating large complex data sets and applying statistical and epidemiological methods and principles to health services research.
Additional Strengths
  • Experience with evaluation projects and mixed methods research projects.
  • Experience with NVivo or similar qualitative data analysis software.
  • Experience with administrative data such as hospital discharge, out-patient, and related databases, and with survey data.
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical software (SAS, STATA, R, MATLAB) and Microsoft Office.
  • Substantial statistical programming experience, including managing, merging and analyzing data sets.
  • Strong knowledge of descriptive statistics, statistical inference, survival analysis and advanced statistical modeling.
  • Ability to output, organize and interpret statistical results in reports for diverse audiences.
