About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team providing collaborative, holistic care on the primary to quaternary care continuum. Social Workers focus on the relationships between people and their environments, integral to psychosocial, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and guide engagement, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Social Workers build on patients/clients strengths by focusing on coping strategies, problem-solving skills, past successes, and personal resources.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
  • Two (2) years post-BSW related clinical experience required
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
  • Previous experience working in adult community mental health preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach
  • Familiarity with evidence-based treatment approaches for severe and persistent mental illness (e.g., Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Motivational Interviewing)
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation
  • Ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies is an asset
  • Effective time management and disciplined self-organization
  • Ability to collaborate with community partners
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset; French preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years may be considered for the selection process and will be placed on the Healthcare Social Worker A (Developmental) scale if offered employment.

Hours
  • Full-time, long assignment position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximately 12 months
  • Shifts will include weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Travel to other sites may be required
Compensation and Benefits

$36.58 - $47.35 per hour. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
