Health and Safety Coordinator – Ottawa, ON

Salary: $60,000–$90,000 per year
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Ottawa, ON (on-site, with travel to project sites)

Our client is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to support their growing construction operations across multiple sites in the Ottawa region. This role is ideal for someone who’s passionate about workplace safety, enjoys being hands-on, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

About the Role

The Health and Safety Coordinator will play a key role in promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across all company locations. You’ll ensure compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and WSIB regulations, conduct inspections, deliver training, and support continuous improvement in safety practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site inspections and prepare detailed compliance reports.
  • Develop and implement site-specific health and safety policies and programs.
  • Identify and mitigate workplace hazards through preventive measures and controls.
  • Coordinate mandatory safety training (e.g., Working at Heights, WHMIS, First Aid).
  • Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings to promote best practices.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries; implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to OHSA, WSIB, and Ministry of Labour standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors on safety compliance.
  • Act as the main contact between employees, management, and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Management, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in construction health and safety (multi-site preferred).
  • Certified WSIB Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) representative.
  • Solid understanding of Ontario’s OHSA and WSIB regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (site travel required).
