Relocation Bonus Available! Come and be part of a brand new 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art hospital at Maritime Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Centre, located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Our Emergency & Specialty hospital delivers care for pets in the greater Halifax Regional Municipality and beyond.

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Hospital Director of Operations (HD) to lead a multi-specialty veterinary hospital within Ethos Veterinary Health. This leader will oversee the hospital’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the highest quality of care for animals while driving financial and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the hospital’s day-to-day operations, drive business growth, and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Drive financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and managing the hospital’s P&L to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Foster transparent communication, build trust-based partnerships across hospital teams, supporting center colleagues, referring veterinarians, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to streamline workflows and elevate patient and client experiences.
  • Use data and key performance metrics to guide decision-making and improve hospital-wide effectiveness.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing hospital team through coaching, mentorship, and continuous learning; cultivate a culture rooted in trust, accountability, curiosity, and personal growth.
  • Partner with Ethos Leadership and JV stakeholders to align on hospital goals and drive execution of priorities.
  • Inspire teams by connecting daily work to the broader mission of Ethos Veterinary Health and the hospital’s purpose.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5–10+ years of senior leadership experience in veterinary hospital operations, healthcare, or retail, ideally in a multi-specialty or matrixed setting.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated experience managing hospital financials, budgeting, and full P&L accountability.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree ideal. MHA / MBA is a plus.
  • Ideal Background: Proven experience building and scaling high-performing teams, driving engagement, and supporting professional development with measurable improvements to hospital financials and EBITDA.
Compensation and Benefits

The ideal compensation range offers up to $130,000 CAD per year, plus bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package. Exceptional experience and immediate impact may warrant consideration of a higher base salary. Annual profit-sharing bonus plan. Relocation bonus for the right candidate. About Ethos and Location

Maritime Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Centre is part of the Ethos Veterinary Health network of hospitals. The HD will report to Ethos Field Leadership and build strong partnerships with the local team, including the Medical Director and Hospital Management team, JV partners, to support clinical excellence and high-quality patient care.

Dartmouth is located just a short ferry ride across Halifax Harbour from downtown Halifax. The area offers a vibrant community with cafes, markets, parks, festivals, and waterfront attractions, including Alderney Landing market on Saturdays.
