About the Role

Discovery Community College is committed to academic excellence and fostering a dynamic learning environment. We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate on-site Health Care Assistant Preceptorship (HCA) Lab and Clinical Instructor to support and guide students through their laboratory and clinical training, helping prepare them for successful entry into the healthcare workforce.

This 4-week in person Lab assignment begins on October 22, 2025, with a daytime schedule from Monday to Friday and plays a key role in preparing students for successful entry into the clinical placement which will follow starting November 17, 2025, with a fixed daytime schedule from Monday to Friday depending upon site availability.

This position is based at our Courtenay, BC campus and plays a key role in ensuring students receive a comprehensive, hands-on educational experience that meets both regulatory standards and industry expectations. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical knowledge, a supportive teaching approach, and a commitment to student success.

This Part-Time role offers variable hours up to 24-32 hours per week and has the potential to lead to future advancements within the college.

Rate Range: $33 to $35/hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, providing guidance and support throughout.
  • Deliver preset lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments aligned with course objectives.
  • Supervise students during clinical placements, ensuring safe, ethical, and competent care practices.
  • Ensure compliance with program accreditation standards, regulatory guidelines, and college policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and evaluations.
Qualifications
  • Two or more years of full-time nursing experience – required.
  • 2800 hours of nursing experience.
  • Experience working with older adults with complex health needs, including home support and multi-level care.
  • Ability to teach adult learners (mentoring / instructing).
  • Provincial Instructors Diploma and previous experience or aptitude and willingness to learn and obtain an Instructor Diploma (with our help).
