Job description

We are seeking an experienced HAZOP Facilitator to provide part-time, on-demand support for hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies across various engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead structured reviews of process systems to identify potential risks, operability issues, and opportunities for improvement. This is an ad hoc consulting role, ideal for professionals who prefer flexible engagement during key project milestones.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate HAZOP study sessions in coordination with project managers and engineers.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams through the systematic identification and evaluation of process deviations, causes, and consequences.
  • Ensure all study sessions are well-documented, with clear identification of safeguards, recommendations, and risk ratings.
  • Oversee the preparation and issuance of HAZOP reports, ensuring findings and action items are accurately captured and tracked to completion.
  • Maintain impartiality and independence from the project team to ensure objective facilitation.
  • Review project documentation (P&IDs, process descriptions, operating procedures, etc.) to confirm readiness for HAZOP sessions.
  • Coordinate with the project team to ensure all relevant disciplines and stakeholders are represented in each study session.
  • Provide recommendations and follow-up guidance as required to support the project risk management process.

  • Technical background in engineering, operations, or process safety.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Formal HAZOP or PHA facilitator training or certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in HAZOP recording tools or templates (e.g., Excel or specialized software).
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly on an ad hoc basis.
