Overview

Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent

Location: Blomidon Golf and Country Club, Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Blomidon Golf Club is located in the heart of the City of Corner Brook on Newfoundland's West. Our course was redesigned by a well-known Canadian golf architect, Graham Cooke. Blomidon offers golfers panoramic vistas of the city, as well as views of the surrounding Blomidon Mountains and the beautiful Bay of Islands. Our course has a variety of different holes, ranging from challenging par 5s, a collection of signature par 4s, and strategic par 3s. We pride ourselves on offering excellent playing conditions and a beautiful, well-maintained landscape for our members and guests. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead our grounds team and ensure the course meets high standards year-round.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all agronomic and maintenance operations including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, rough areas, and course landscaping.
  • Oversee irrigation system maintenance, scheduling, and repairs to ensure water use efficiency and turf health.
  • Develop and implement fertilizer, pesticide, and disease/pest control programs (with proper licensing and adherence to regulations).
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets; control costs, forecast needs for supplies, equipment, and staffing.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance staff. Establish schedules, delegate tasks, ensure safety practices and compliance with health & safety/environmental rules.
  • Maintain and repair equipment and grounds maintenance machinery; ensure the maintenance yard, tools, and storage are kept in good order.
  • Plan and execute course improvement projects (renovations, repairs, grow-in work) either directly or via contractors.
  • Work with management to plan long-term strategy and short-term maintenance standards; respond to members/guest feedback.
  • Maintain records: pesticide/fertilizer application, weather data, maintenance schedules and logs, budget tracking.

  • Seasonal employment. May 1st - Oct 31st. M-F 8 hours per day. Evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a closely related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Several years (often 3–5+) of experience in golf course maintenance; experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Valid pesticide applicator’s license (or willingness/ability to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass types, disease, pest, and weed control relevant to Atlantic Canadian climate.
  • Experience with irrigation systems—installation, maintenance, troubleshooting.
  • Solid leadership skills: able to motivate a team, communicate clearly, oversee staff performance.
  • Good financial acumen: budgeting, cost control, vendor relations.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours—weekends, early mornings, seasonally variable hours.
