The Opportunity: WSP is currently seeking a Geological Engineer-in-Training to work on projects with our Rock Mechanics team in Mississauga or Sudbury office and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Under the mentorship of intermediate and senior team members, you will provide support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for mining, closure and infrastructure projects. Qualifications
  • Your willingness to be mobile in the province of Ontario, and your openness to be doing a variety of work that may include field and office-based work, which may involve work outside of normal business hours
  • Your basic understanding of geology, structural geology, and rock mechanics.
  • Your experience with commonly used geotechnical software or field tasks;
  • Your comfort and experience assisting and writing geotechnical reports;
  • Your excellent strong verbal and communication skills in English are essential. Written and oral skills in French is considered an asset
  • Your ability to think and act independently and present critical thinking skills while accepting coaching, guidance and productive feedback;
  • You are enthusiastic, resourceful, adaptable, well organized and you have an eye for details;
  • You are a true professional, and believe in the power of engaged and high-performing teams and know what works well to get the most out of your peers;
  • You demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and act as a role model to other staff;
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geological, Mining or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Eligible or in the process of obtaining registration with PEO;
  • Valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
  • Assisting with various field activities including borehole layout, utility clearances, supervision of drill rigs, logging boreholes, mapping rock faces, surveying, and inspections;
  • Summarizing and analyzing findings from field inspections, investigations, and lab testing;
  • Preparing and working with 2D and 3D geological and geotechnical models;
  • Assisting with or carrying out various geological or geotechnical data analyses;
  • Preparing or assisting with preparing engineering memos, reports, and presentations;
  • Providing geotechnical engineering support for analysis and design of underground or surface rock excavation, monitoring, support, and other geotechnical problems;
  • Participating in a team environment within and outside of the rock mechanics discipline;
  • Learning about the consulting business and developing and sharing your technical skills with other members of your team;
