Job Overview

ClearBlue Markets is seeking a (1) talented and driven Fuel Standards Analyst (NOC 12113) to join our Market Intelligence team at our offices located at 110 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5V 2K4. The role involves translating knowledge, experience, and expertise into actionable insights and accurate forecasts, ensuring that ClearBlue’s clients and internal teams are well‑informed and strategically positioned.

Main Responsibilities
  • Formulate and communicate expert insights on policy changes, supply‑demand dynamics, and price movements across the operational fuel standard programs in North America.
  • Own & produce high‑quality reports and data visualizations, including weekly newsletters, quarterly supply and demand reports, live updates, and special topic reports. Ensure the accuracy and clarity of all written materials.
  • Manage complex datasets, including regulatory data releases, transportation sector indicators and other relevant information. Utilize tools such as Excel for advanced quantitative modeling and analysis, including building and maintaining light and heavy‑duty fleet models and reflecting EV adoption, Renewable Natural Gas uptake and project‑based credits from refinery projects and carbon capture.
  • Understand and predict Carbon Intensity scores according to regulatory pathways that vary by program. Build and maintain marginal abatement cost curves by technology. Build and maintain stacked incentives by fuel by jurisdiction to compare payback economics.
  • Develop and maintain long‑term supply, demand, and price forecasts for the Clean Fuel Standards markets, leveraging advanced quantitative methods and market intelligence to predict future market dynamics accurately. Determine which feedstocks and fuels are on the margin to inform price formation points. Create modeling scenarios to capture a range of outcomes.
  • Communicate forecasts to clients and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • A demonstrated and comprehensive understanding of policy developments, market trends, individual market characteristics and transportation fuels required to model supply and demand in each program (California, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, US RFS, Canada CFR, British Columbia).
  • Proven knowledge of modeling approaches to capture interjurisdictional competition for clean fuel supply and feedstocks, including cross‑border interactions and stacked values of market‑based and non‑market‑based incentives such as blending mandates and other credits.
  • Master’s degree in sustainability, environmental management or economics.
  • Knowledge of history and operations of all Clean Fuel Standards markets, with at least 3 years of professional experience in the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Python & PowerBi/Tableau are an asset.
  • The ability to explain difficult concepts in simple terms to peers, teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key market stakeholders and all levels internally and externally.
  • An affinity for carbon markets and reducing air emissions and environmental impact.
  • Positive and highly motivated attitude with a strong sense of ownership of work.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Permanent full‑time position based on 40 hours a week at an annual salary of $74,880.
  • Benefits include generous Health & Dental benefits offering Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Long Term Disability, and Extended Health Care coverage, along with access to the Employee Spendings Account and 20 days of annual Vacation Days + 5 Personal Days each calendar year.
