Overview

The Coordinator of Volunteer Engagement is an integral member of the Volunteer & Engagement Department at Fringe Theatre. Reporting to the Manager of Volunteers & Engagement, this position is responsible for implementing Fringe’s Volunteer engagement program. This includes supporting recruitment, screening, orientation, training, supervision and support of Festival Volunteers. Administratively, this role is responsible for direct communications with Volunteers, scheduling meetings and events, note taking, and end of season reporting. This is a contract position that requires some evening and weekend work. There is an expectation that staff are reasonably available leading up to and including the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, August 13 –23, 2026.

Is it you we’re looking for?

You value the importance of volunteerism in building community. You offer exceptional customer service and champion radical hospitality. You think strategically and communicate clearly. You’re comfortable communicating in a variety of ways, including in-person, over the phone, over email, and in leading large groups. You have phenomenal attention to detail and time management skills. You can manage multiple projects with exact deadlines. You highly value collaboration and love working as part of a big, creative team full of big, creative personalities. You understand the importance of relationship group engagement and retention. You thrive in an evolving environment where no two days are the same. You bring an open and positive energy to everything you do. You’ve got a great sense of humour and desire to make the arts industry (if not the world!) a better place. A love for Fringe, live theatre, and the local arts scene helps, too.

Job Description
  • Serve as a liaison between Volunteers and other Fringe partners including staff, artists, patrons, donors, sponsors, and clients.

  • Support the overall efficiency, effectiveness, and evolution of the Volunteer program.
Qualifications
  • This position requires some lifting, loading, and unloading of event supplies and equipment.
  • Any Volunteer certifications and First Aid are considered an asset; and
  • Candidate will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check including a Police Information Check.

The ideal candidate has training and at least a few years’ experience in Volunteer coordination and/or as an active Volunteer in the community. If you have the drive but not the years’ experience, still throw your hat in the ring. We want to work with someone passionate who wants to learn.
