A correctional facility in Alberta is seeking a Food Service Supervisor to oversee meal preparation, cooking, and serving for inmates. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of food service experience and be ServSafe certified. Responsibilities include supervising inmate workers, managing food provisions, and adhering to food safety standards. Must be 18 years old, pass background checks, and be willing to be on-call during weekends.
Overview
Direct contact and supervision of inmates. Supervises the preparation, cooking and serving of meals in the jail; supervises the preparation of meats, vegetables and other food for meals; instructs inmate workers assigned to food service work in the proper techniques of food preparation; controls the amount of food prepared; prepares bread, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry and desserts; cooks and serves meals from basic foods to jail inmates; keeps simple records and makes reports in connection with the work; supervises and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen storeroom and utensils; accounts for all utensils after meals are finished; checks closely each step in the cooking process; performs related work as required; prepares staff meals daily, ensuring inmates do not have contact with staff food.
Be a high school graduate or equivalent
Must be 18 years of age
Possess a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license
Pass a drug screening
Have the ability to pass an extensive criminal history and background check
Minimum of one (1) year of Food Service and/or Food Preparation experience.
Must be ServSafe certified or shall obtain such certification within 6 months of employment as well as ServSafe Food Protection Manager certified
Must maintain a telephone in residence for emergency contact
Must be willing to be in an on-call status
Weekends are required with this position.
