Position Summary

Shift: Friday - Tuesday, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Monitor and operate combined heat and power plant and chilled water systems and connected equipment controls. Ensure safe and efficient plant operations; respond to changes in operating conditions; perform routine operations work orders; conduct physical rounds following protocols; report abnormal conditions; assist troubleshooting; manage fuel and material deliveries; maintain qualifications; perform emissions observations; manipulate valves and controllers; respond to emergencies; perform lockout/tagout; assist in plant operation via control systems.

Qualifications
Required Education:
  • High School diploma
  • City of New York Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration System Operator
  • City of New York Engineers License for High Pressure Boilers, Engines, and Pumps
Preferred Education:
  • Operating Engineer Apprentice Program
  • Trade School or Post-Elementary Education
  • Engineering Degree
Required Experience:
  • Five years relevant experience
Preferred Experience:
  • Operation and maintenance of Gas Turbines/Combustion Turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of cogeneration and chilled water systems
  • Maintenance routines and standards
  • Soldering, welding, wire pulling, pipe threading, conduit installation
  • Operation of hand and power tools, rigging
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy (Email, MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Ability to learn instrumentation and control systems

  • Knowledge of DDC systems, high voltage switchgear

  • Physical ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, wear respirators, lift 50 lbs
Additional Information

The hourly rate is USD $62.185, based on bargaining unit contracts. The pay range excludes incentives or bonuses. NYU aims for carbon neutrality by 2040. EOE/AA/MF/Vet/Disabled.
