The Team Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast‑moving, award‑winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses. The role seeks a Technical Specialist Advisory to liaise between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams, ensuring solutions are developed and delivered on time, efficiently and with high quality for various projects within GBME.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate an informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities.
- Design, test and implement business‑driven system changes in the FIX engine, risk‑management platform and client portal hub for GBM Trading.
- Extensive interaction with clients, vendors and exchanges to manage and maintain FIX connectivity for electronic trading as well as onboarding new clients.
- Perform 2nd level support of production trading systems to troubleshoot and quickly resolve any issues or questions.
- Ensure business specifications/requirements documentation is accurately prepared and comprehensive to support sizing/development efforts and as input to various project documentation.
- Develop and deliver Business Requirements Documents, Design Documents, Use Cases, and Process Models as required.
- Participate in the development of detailed project plans, the monitoring of progress against planned objectives, the financial review, and securing consensus and co‑operation from users and senior management.
- Work closely across GBME technology teams during all stages of the system development life cycle and bridge the gap between business and technology sides of the solution.
- Liasing between the business community and the IT organization to provide technical solutions that meet user needs.
- Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in Global regions.
- Perform ad hoc work as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment.
- 3+ years practical experience in capital markets.
- Minimum 3 years' working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server, with ability to create and run queries independently.
- Strong understanding of FIX protocol, market data, trading applications, and market microstructure.
- Strong knowledge of equity trading strategies, technology and market structure.
- Experience working with all phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
- Proficient with Unix Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.), SQL queries, PL/SQL, and SQL Loader – or equivalent.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Recognized undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration, computer science or related field required.
- Excellent working experience of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the Bank's application system and software from a business/technical viewpoint to assess the impact of development and/or changes.
- Experience in interaction with clients, vendors and exchanges to manage and maintain FIX connectivity.

Salary: $26.73 to $67.00 per hour
