BC Assessment is currently looking for a Finance Co-op Student or a new graduate for a 8-month work term (January to August) to join our Accounting and Reporting team in our Victoria, BC office.

Who you are

The Finance team is looking for someone to support capital expenditure and operating expenditure portfolios for BC Assessment. This position is part of the Accounting and Reporting team and will be responsible for entries to the General Ledger, administering capital IMIT projects, completion of account reconciliations and analysis, and resolving variances. The role provides an exceptional learning opportunity that offers insight into both capital expenditure and operating expenditure management, and the ability to develop and expand professional communication, stakeholder relationship management, and financial accounting and analysis skills.

• Prepare accurate reconciliations, reports and analysis while ensuring adherence to corporate policies, procedures and accounting practices.
• Organize, prioritize, and work efficiently under the pressure of deadlines.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships in the course of the assigned work.
• Use a service-oriented approach to communicate with clients and customers in order to maintain a consistently high level of service.
• Ensure the appropriate exchange and coordination of financial information.
• Work effectively with others and are eager to make a positive impact within the organization!

What you’ll get to do

• Action accounting transactions in the financial system (e.g. prepare account certifications, journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, lease agreements).
• Maintain fixed asset records, record asset acquisitions and disposals, calculate amortization.
• Process, reconcile and analyze financial information.
• Investigate variances, correct errors or omissions, and advise senior financial staff of concerns.
• Verify accuracy of actuals and accruals, including adherence to contracts.
• Respond to financial enquiries and provide detailed information and analyses to clients and managers.
• Contribute to weekly Finance meetings

This position is excluded from the bargaining unit.

• Location: Victoria, B.C.
• Compensation: $26.0707 hourly ($1,824.95 bi-weekly)

*The compensation range above is based on the salary schedule outlined in the CUPE 1767 Collective Agreement. Successful candidates typically start at the minimum of the range (Step 1), with the opportunity to receive an increment after 12 months of service.

What you bring to the team

Education

• Completion of Grade 12 is required.
• University or College courses in the area of business, economics, engineering, information systems, geographic information systems, human resources, finance or other related disciplines.
• Registered in a recognized co-op program at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Experience

• Experience working in an office environment would be an asset.

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. We will consider new graduates with relevant course and work experience.
