A full-time family practice position is available. This rare opportunity to set your own work life balance in the East Kootenays! The candidate would have their own panel of patients for which they would provide longitudinal care. In addition, the candidate would share the responsibility to provide coverage at the Sparwood Emergency Department. The Emergency Department is staffed with emergency trained RN’s with the support of a lab and x-ray technicians. This department averages 18 patients per day. The emergency department opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. There is no overnight in-person call requirement in Sparwood. The emergency weekend [8 a.m. – 7 p.m.] and weekday evening call [4 p.m. – 7 p.m.] is “1 in 6”. You will find the perfect balance of medical clinic and rural emergency department work here! Additionally, the Sparwood ED is supported by the High Acuity Response Team (HART) based out of Cranbrook. HART team consists of a critical care nurse as well as an RT. The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARs) service, based out of Alberta, can support Sparwood in emergency situations and is a 55-minute flying time for STARS to Sparwood from Calgary. Additionally, there is an airstrip 15 minutes north of Sparwood for fixed wing aircraft. The candidate will have 43 days of vacation through the BC Rural Locum Program.
