Role
The role of Building Operator will build and maintain all aspects of what keeps Vivo operating seamlessly across the facility and community and create inspiring and innovative spaces that bring Vivo’s mission to life. You will have a strong technical and mechanical background to troubleshoot a variety of operational tasks and champion continuous improvement to ensure internal processes and procedures help achieve Vivo’s business goals.
Hours
Full-time – 40 Hours per week
Part-time – Up to 32 hours per week
Reports to
Facilities & Environment Manager
Facility Maintenance & Operations
- Proactively carry out daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with equipment manuals to ensure asset longevity and minimize downtime.
- Complete scheduled filter changes and routine maintenance following asset management protocols to optimize operational efficiency.
- Assess and investigate mechanical system issues, coordinating with the appropriate contractors to ensure timely resolution and service continuity.
- Conduct maintenance and servicing of arena equipment (including ice surfaces), aquatic systems, facility infrastructure, and outdoor grounds to uphold operational standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and responsiveness to building management systems (BMS), contributing to efficient facility operation and early issue detection.
- Safely and effectively operate a wide range of equipment including the ice resurfacer, ice edger, power tools, saws, drills, augers, pumps, and floor cleaning machinery to support facility operations.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness through janitorial tasks such as washroom sanitation, dressing room cleaning (including officials’ rooms), and general upkeep of arena and surrounding grounds.
Safety & Compliance
- Collect and submit weekly pool water samples to meet safety standards and regulatory compliance.
- Accurately document readings from ice plants, boilers, and pool chemistry tests to support regulatory compliance and operational transparency.
- Maintain a professional appearance by wearing the required uniform, including ice grips and steel-toed boots or shoes, to support workplace safety and guest trust.
- Play an active role in sustaining a safe work environment through adherence to policies and proactive risk identification.
- Support a safe and compliant working environment by following all Vivo Health and Safety guidelines and best practices.
Customer Service
- Engage guests with a welcoming, helpful, and professional demeanor, serving as a visible and approachable representative of the facility.
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns related to facility operations and safety with clarity, empathy, and a solutions-focused approach.
Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Consistently reflect and reinforce the organization’s vision, values, purpose, and strategic outcomes in interactions with staff, guests, and contractors.
- Collaborate with team members to design, test, and implement tools and materials that enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery.

Qualifications
- 5 years of Building Operator experience
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- AARFP Pool / Arena – 2
- Pool Operator 2
- Power engineering level 3, 4 or 5
- CET designation are an assets
- Building Operation and maintenance courses are an assets
- Experience in a related maintenance role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Other Requirements
- A valid police information check for the Vulnerable Sector within the past 2 months
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications
