Dow is seeking Facility Operations Technicians for exciting opportunities at our Alberta Operations located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. This role plays a vital role in supporting Dow's operations and initiatives, including our Path2Zero (P2Z) program's aiming to create the first net‑zero emissions site of its kind globally, a cornerstone of Dow's Decarbonization strategy.

About Alberta Operations

Dow's Fort Saskatchewan site operates four world‑scale production units focused on manufacturing hydrocarbons, ethylene, polyethylene, and electricity. As one of Canada's largest petrochemical sites, Dow Fort Saskatchewan serves customers worldwide and enables Dow's global operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Optimize Plant Performance:

    • Monitor and troubleshoot plant operations across various areas, including Hydrocarbons, Solution Polyethylene, Gas Phase Polyethylene, and Power & Utilities.
    • Operate control systems, adjust processes manually, and conduct field checks to maintain optimal performance.
    • Collaborate with team members to optimize production efficiency while adhering to Dow's safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintenance Support:

    • Isolate and prepare plant equipment for maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Work alongside maintenance teams to ensure downtime is minimized and operational efficiency is maintained.
  • Adhere to Safety Standards:

    • Follow Dow's Life Critical Standards and Operating Discipline policies to maintain safe and reliable operations.
    • Participate in safety drills, Emergency Response Brigade training (live fire, rope rescue), and wear all required personal protective equipment (respirators, SCBA, harnesses).
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work in close‑knit teams (sizes ranging from 4 to 10+ operators) with opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and cross‑functional collaboration.
    • Be self‑motivated and contribute positively to the team environment, focusing on achieving plant and operational goals.
  • Technical Training and Certification:

    • Participate in Dow's training programs to earn ABSA 3rd, 2nd, and 4th class certifications, enhancing technical expertise.
    • Be open to traveling to locations such as Prentiss, Alberta, USA (St. Charles, Louisiana) for extended training periods.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Be physically and mentally capable of working in challenging environments, such as confined spaces, high heights, and fully encapsulated PPE areas.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing approximately 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a medical evaluation to respond to plant emergencies.
  • Participate in Dow's Emergency Response Brigade training, which includes live fire and rope rescue exercises.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications: Commitment to work towards ABSA Class 4 or higher technical certifications.
  • Work Authorization: Must be eligible to work legally in Canada (no visa sponsorship provided).
  • Driver's License: A valid Canadian driver's license is required.
  • Shift Work: Comfortable with 12‑hour rotating shifts in alignment with plant startup and operational schedules.
Preferred Skills:
  • A two‑year technical diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology, Power Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in operations, instrumentation, mechanical, or electrical fields.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
