Job description
  • Manage and oversee the shift operations in the data centre, ensuring all systems perform optimally, including power and cooling equipment, and monitoring and security systems.
  • Exercise strong teamwork skills to lead and motivate the facilities management team and liaise with specialist contractors.
  • Perform safety audits during as agreed with the line manager.
  • The Facilities Shift Manager is responsible to ensure planned preventative maintenance is done on schedule, and to the required quality and in line with Global Switch policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate all scheduled maintenance activities, ensuring they are executed correctly and on time through diligent time management practices.
  • Attend and supervise maintenance activities and works requiring a permit to work if required by the Facilities Manager.
  • Create and present maintenance reports and maintenance records for management review as required.
  • Monitor and measure operational issues as required. Review and take part on team reporting on a weekly or monthly basis as required.
  • Ensure proper use of operating procedures is used to guide work done at the data centre, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedures (MOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures. Take part in MOP/SOP/EOP document creation and continuous improvement activities.
  • Conduct regular inspections during maintenance activities to ensure the work is high quality.
  • Produce reports into maintenance activities and incidents to support decision making and potential commercial action. Reports shall be professional, clear, succinct and include supporting material such as photographs, BMS downloads, temperature charts, etc.
  • Follow all Global Switch policies and procedures and motivate others to do the same.
  • Take part in scenario drills.
  • Provide adaptable and clear communication as you define project requirements and offer technical guidance throughout project execution phases.
  • Strong attention to detail in creating and reviewing maintenance reports and records for accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • To monitor and control all site maintenance staff contractors and sub-contractors
  • Act as an ambassador for the company in the delivery of the role.
  • Set and ensures high standards of work at all times, responding to job tasks with urgency and ensuring things happen in a consistent, organised way.
  • Remain calm in challenging situations and persists in the face of obstacles.
  • Proactively collaborate with peers and colleagues.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure the facility adheres to all relevant Health and Safety regulations.
  • Where requested by the Facilities Manager, meet with, and discuss operational processes with sales prospects, Customers and Contractors.
  • Drive the site FM team in accordance with all GS operating processes providing a unified team approach to all activities.
  • Understand service levels for all Customers, including exceptions to standards.
  • Ensure that services are delivered to Customers that meet or exceed agreed service levels by performing oversight of the FM and Specialist contractors.
  • Follow Global Switch escalation processes as required.
  • Ensure that work is being carried out in accordance with approved documents, best practices, and manufacturers recommendations.
  • Develop a broad knowledge of all GS critical assets at the site.
