The Saskatchewan Craft Council is hiring an Executive Director, a strategic thinker who will help guide and lead the Council as it faces a particularly exciting yet challenging time for the arts. The Council is a membership-based non-profit organization governed by an elected Board of Directors. As the Council’s Executive Director, you will be dealing with a broad range of issues including the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the creation of craft, the range of diverse craft practices in our society and the future of fine craft in an increasingly fluid cultural, social and economic environment.

Organization and Scope

You will manage one of Canada’s leading craft organizations which is an historic presence in the cultural life of Saskatchewan. Based in Saskatoon and province-wide in scope, the Council boasts over 350 members whose work encompasses a wide variety of artistic practices. Founded in 1975, the Council offers a wide range of programs and services in support of the province’s craft artists including a retail and online shop, public exhibitions, marketing of their work, and career development. The Council has a unionized staff (SGEU) that reports to the Executive Director.

Position

The Executive Director reports to the Board as a whole and works closely with the Board Chair.

Requirements

  • worked for a volunteer-led non-profit, preferably as a direct report to its Board of Directors.
  • a commitment to the fine arts and a knowledge of the career challenges that artists in the craft sector face.
  • substantial experience with strategic planning and the collaborative management of organizations.
  • an understanding of and experience in critical areas of risk management.
  • proven financial and human resource management capacity and excellent communications skills.
  • an entrepreneurial approach to and success in developing a wide range of partnerships and revenue sources.
  • Start date: Monday, January 5, 2026.
  • Contract employment with a probability of renewal based on performance.
  • Salary range: $80,000-$95,000. Competitive benefits package.
