Job Description

The Enterprise GIS Analyst provides advanced geographic information systems (GIS) services to support Strathcona County’s programs, services, and decision-making. This role collaborates with business areas to develop requirements and deliver creative solutions to business challenges. The Enterprise GIS Analyst works independently on complex initiatives, contributes to GIS standards and best practices, and supports the ongoing evolution of the County’s GIS environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business areas to understand requirements and translate them into effective GIS solutions
  • Lead complex spatial analysis, data modeling, and geospatial problem-solving to support operational and strategic initiatives
  • Design, develop, and maintain GIS datasets, maps, dashboards, web applications, and automated workflows
  • Maintain and enhance enterprise GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and adherence to established standards
  • Provide technical guidance and subject-matter expertise related to GIS tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Support GIS application configuration, system integrations, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards related to GIS data and processes
  • Support and contribute to GIS projects by acting as a project resource and assisting with planning, coordination, and implementation
  • Research emerging GIS technologies and recommend enhancements to improve service delivery and efficiency
  • Deliver advanced GIS analysis, mapping, and geospatial solutions to County departments, staff, and external stakeholders

Qualificationsand Skills:

  • Diploma or Degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressively responsible GIS experience in an enterprise or municipal environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Esri GIS software and tools, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and related extensions
  • Demonstrated experience performing complex spatial analysis, data management, and geospatial problem-solving
  • Experience developing maps, dashboards, web maps, and automated GIS workflows
  • Strong understanding of GIS data standards, quality assurance, metadata, and data governance principles
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver solutions with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with scripting, automation, or web technologies (e.g., Python, ModelBuilder, web GIS) is considered an asset
  • GIS Professional (GISP) or Esri Technical Certification considered an asset
