A major engineering firm is looking for an Engineering /Technical Manager-Electrical in Oshawa to oversee engineering delivery for new nuclear projects. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, 10+ years of experience, and proficiency in managing engineering teams and electrical system designs. The Nuclear Canada business is growing with international and domestic New Build projects, including the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) and the GEH BWRX-300 SMR deployment.
The Engineering/Technical Manager – Electrical reports to the Engineering Director, Candu Engineering, and to the Site project Technical Engineering Director. The role oversees design and technical activities on a site project delivery, with responsibility for assigned site engineering and construction delivery for a New Nuclear program. It requires stakeholder management, leadership of project teams, and strong experience in engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and project controls.
The position is based in Oshawa, ON, with project teams located near Toronto and at the Courtice-Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario.
Managing site engineering to installation for an Electrical Systems in a new build station, including defining system functional and performance requirements and environmental/seismic qualification.
Planning and executing work to meet quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
Coordinating and overseeing electrical design activities related to completion of the fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
Coordinating the design interface between the NSP and balance of plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving other engineering teams, Procurement, Quality, etc.
Ensuring work complies with Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, contract, specifications, and technical requirements.
Interfacing with stakeholders to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements and are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
Ensuring department deliverables meet budget, schedule, quality and technical requirements.
Removing barriers that could impact safety, quality, cost, or schedule.
Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills and durations.
Maintaining and improving client relationships and offerings with marketing and other groups.
Overseeing the work of 10 to 20 electrical engineering staff, with supervisory responsibilities including:
Fostering a positive team environment and recognizing performance.
Assembling a project team through recruiting, interviewing and selecting staff, and establishing development programs for qualifications and succession.
Administrative tasks such as timesheet, vacation approvals, goal setting, and performance feedback; making effective HR decisions.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university; Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
10+ years’ experience on various projects (engineering services, refurbishments, and/or new builds); 5+ years leading teams; experience on a new build project is an asset (nuclear, CC, etc.).
Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure safety, performance, and regulatory compliance; experience with procurement, quality, contracts, and construction.
Ability to assemble and lead a multidisciplinary project team; supervise engineering professionals (bundle design engineers, stress analysts, materials/welding engineers).
Strong supervisory skills and career development of project resources.
Thorough knowledge of Canadian and international codes and standards (CSA, ESA, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, NETSA), EPRI guidelines, INPO reports.
Knowledge of Standard Modification Design Process and electrical analysis software (ETAP, EDSA, EMTP-RV, etc.).
Experience sizing and specifying electrical equipment and preparing complex electrical designs, layouts, schematics, protection and control designs.
Experience with electrical system condition assessments and quality management (CSA N286, CSA N299) and related standards and nuclear regulatory guides.
Working knowledge of CSA, IEC, IEEE standards for Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Engineering and related regulatory guides.
Experience delivering overall plant control system design for a power facility and regulatory communications in a regulated industry is an asset.
Experience in a Canadian nuclear facility is an asset; experience interfacing with US NRC for SRP is an asset.
Experience in Engineering Change Control for field run as-built conditions and dispositions of non-conformances; updating Technical Specifications as required.
Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills; results-driven with strong interpersonal ability.
