Our team is a collection of ambitious, collaborative and mission‑driven people from all walks of life but with one goal: helping Canadian companies not just survive but thrive. And we’re looking for bold innovators to help shape the future of business finance in Canada.

About the Role

We’re hiring an Engineering Manager for Product Platform & APIs to lead teams building the foundational systems that power Float’s product ecosystem and integrations.

This role is responsible for internal platforms, external APIs, and accounting integrations that enable product teams — and third‑party developers — to build on Float safely and at scale. The work here often has indirect but outsized impact, requiring strong systems thinking, excellent communication, and comfort operating in ambiguity.

This is a player‑coach role, with an expected ~60% hands‑on technical contribution.

Key Responsibilities
Platform & API Leadership
  • Own the roadmap and execution for Product Platform and API capabilities.
  • Build systems that enable product teams to ship faster with fewer dependencies.
  • Anticipate engineering needs and translate them into scalable platform solutions.
Integrations & Ecosystem
  • Lead development and maintenance of accounting integrations (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite).
  • Design reliable, scalable integration patterns across disparate third‑party APIs.
  • Partner with Product to evolve Float’s API strategy and long‑term ecosystem vision.
Hands‑On Technical Leadership (60%)
  • Contribute directly to backend, platform, and integration code.
  • Review designs and PRs with a focus on correctness, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration and operational issues.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product, Platform, and Customer teams.
  • Communicate clearly in a domain where impact is often indirect and non‑obvious.
  • Help teams understand why platform work matters to the business.
People Leadership (40%)
  • Lead and develop engineers working across platform and integration domains.
  • Build clarity around ownership, priorities, and delivery expectations.
  • Foster a culture of adaptability, accountability, and technical excellence.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong backend and systems engineering background.
  • Experience building APIs, platforms, or integration‑heavy systems.
  • Comfort working across varied third‑party APIs and data models.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguous, enablement‑focused problem spaces.
  • Experience contributing code while leading teams.
  • Strong communication skills, especially around indirect impact.
  • Experience with accounting, payments, or financial integrations is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with developer platforms, SDKs, or ecosystem products is a strong plus.
You’ll Be Great in This Role If You:
  • Enjoy building leverage and enabling others.
  • Are adaptable and learn new domains quickly.
  • Can explain complex systems simply.
  • Thrive in roles where success is measured by others’ velocity.
  • Balance execution with long‑term platform thinking.
This Role Won’t Be a Fit If:
  • You prefer direct feature ownership only.
  • You struggle with ambiguous or indirect impact.
  • You avoid operational responsibility.
  • You dislike cross‑team collaboration.
Why You Should Join
  • Work at one of Canada’s fastest‑growing fintech companies
  • Make a real impact in a high‑autonomy, high‑growth role
  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team
  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits
  • Hybrid work model – we are based in Toronto with in‑office days for connection and collaboration
  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Bring your pup to our dog‑friendly office
  • Thrive in a high‑trust, high‑performance culture where your work truly matters
