Position Overview:

Reporting to the Lands and Resources Manager, Band Manager and with direction from Chief and Council, the Energy Resources Program Manager represents Doig River First Nation (DRFN) and advocates its interests through program implementation.

The Manager oversees all aspects of the energy resources program at DRFN and works with Council, program staff, and Lands department personnel to ensure DRFN territory is protected, treaty rights are implemented, and land stewardship is consistent with DRFN’s cultural and environmental values. In collaboration with the Economic Development Manager, this individual also seeks opportunities to advance business development and employment for DRFN members and its affiliates within the energy sector.

The Manager works to build reciprocal relations with industry proponents, regulators, and interest groups, including representing DRFN at working groups and forums, and is responsible for ensuring meaningful engagement and consultation with DRFN members on proposed energy-related activities.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure sustainable management of lands by balancing social, cultural, environmental, and economic values during all phases of energy-related work, including pre-planning, construction, operations, maintenance, reclamation, and remediation.
• Ensure energy projects comply with DRFN/Industry Agreements, legislative requirements, the DRFN Planning Framework, and indigenous best practices.
• Stay updated on changes to acts, regulations, policies, and guidelines affecting energy resources in BC and AB, and participate in consultation and engagement related to proposed revisions.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate internal policies, standards, and systems to ensure the effective running of the energy resources program.
• Participate in the negotiation, development, and implementation of industry agreements that align with DRFN’s strategic goals.
• Advocate for DRFN’s perspective to be incorporated into energy-related activities and ensure meaningful participation of DRFN members in the energy sector.
• Conduct effective consultation with DRFN community members, industry, and regulators to assess the impacts of energy-related proposals and incidents on DRFN rights, interests, and values.
• Lead DRFN’s participation in hearings and environmental assessments related to energy projects to ensure alignment with DRFN’s objectives and values.
• Supervise, assign, and oversee the work, safety, and training of program staff and DRFN monitors, fostering effective team development.
• Prepare and submit quarterly reports, briefs, memos, and presentations to ensure transparent and effective information sharing within the program and with stakeholders.
• Cultivate reciprocal relationships with regulators and industry to advance DRFN’s strategic goals and maintain effective communication channels.
• Integrate Beaver culture and language into operations, follow DRFN policies, and commit to continuous improvement and collaboration to ensure the success of the program.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in energy-related work.
• Degree or Technical Diploma in environmental sciences, geology, or related studies or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of, and practical application experience with health & safety requirements unique to various resource development sectors.
• A team player with strong interpersonal skills who will engage with DRFN’s staff, members and leadership and possess great communication skills.
• Excellent time management skills with an ability to multitask and prioritize.
• Comfortable working remotely outdoors and willing to travel for work.
• Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites.

Compensation:

• A highly competitive compensation package that includes a salary of $120,000 has been designed to attract star performers.
