About This Opportunity

St. Martha's Regional Hospital (SMRH), Antigonish, is seeking an emergency medicine physician to join their team. Permanent, full-time/part-time and short-term/locum opportunities exist. There is opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University, as well as local simulation-based learning and mentoring opportunities, should that be of interest. SMRH is approximately two hours from the region's tertiary care pediatric facility, the IWK Health Centre, which provides neonatal support. This facility serves a population of nearly 60,000 from Antigonish, Guysborough, and surrounding communities. It is classified as a Level 2 Emergency Dept and has 8 beds, plus an observation area with 15 beds.

Responsibilities

Duties include full scope of practice as an emergency physician providing care to patients within the eastern zone. The physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Emergency Medicine for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Qualifications
  • eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC); or eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • ATLS, ACLS, PALS and advanced airway training are required
