Role and Facility Information

North Island Hospital Comox Valley in the Comox Valley is seeking on‑going Emergency Medicine locum coverage. The hospital opened in October 2017 and has a 24‑hour Emergency Department with 153 inpatient beds. The ED sees a wide range of patient populations, including pediatric cases, and an average of over 31,000 visits annually for the approximately 66,000 residents of the community.

Applicants must hold either a CCFP‑EM or FRCPC Emergency certification.

North Island Hospital is a referral centre for surgical specialties and is affiliated with the University of British Columbia postgraduate programs. It is an academic teaching hospital that hosts Family Practice residency, medical student, and residency teaching.

At present, the hospital offers Rapid Access and Discharge Unit (RADU) shifts for physicians. The RADU is designed for patients expected to be discharged within 24 hours and is a key part of the ED workflow.

The institution values academic, quality‑improvement, and leadership experience. As a new hospital, there is opportunity to lead QI initiatives supported by the department.
