Where you will be stationed: Peace River station is a brand-new facility located beside the Peace River Community Health Centre. Peace River is located on the banks of the Peace River; 2 hours northeast of Grande Prairie, under 3 hours to Slave Lake and 5 hours north of Edmonton. Casual staff at the Peace River hub are eligible to pick up shifts in 6 local communities: Peace River, Red Earth, Fairview, McLennan, Manning and Worsley. As an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation, assessing scenes and patients, providing simple treatments and completing required documentation including patient care reports. You will assist with ensuring that EMS vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial or agricultural equipment. You will travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions are physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. You may also be required to stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, and carry up to 20 lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

Preference is given to candidates with previous EMS experience in metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environments and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is an asset and will be considered during the selection process.
