Position Overview
Calian is currently hiring Electro-Optronic Technician Instructors to support instruction at RCEME on a full-time basis, in an on-site setting at Canadian Forces Base Borden.
Responsibilities
- Provide theoretical and practical instruction for up to 30 students per class
- Provide instruction individually or in conjunction with other instructors
- Create training aids using supplied boards (white, chalk), equipment (projectors, smart boards), other multimedia materials
- Monitor and correct unsafe workshop behaviour
- Identify and report student disciplinary and academic problems to the applicable Section Head
- Secure and store training aids in designated areas at the end of each training day
- Review and implement RCEME School DP, RQ, and USQ instruction policies. Policies include, but are not limited to, tool control, classroom management, material management, social relationships and harassment prevention
- Navigate the Defence Learning Network (DLN) to monitor student progress
- Adapt to changing working conditions such as programme changes, unforeseen changes in scheduling, and change to subject matter
- Familiarize and follow all policies outlined at RCEME School and the Conduct of Training Manual (CTM) related to the instruction provided to the DP, RQ, and USQ course students
- Maintain classrooms, laboratories and facilities in a clean, serviceable state, ensuring fire, security and safety regulations are adhered to. This may include routine training aid repair
- Control, score, and analyze all Enabling Checks (ECs) and Performance Checks (PCs)
- Advise course director regarding deficient and unserviceable training aids and facilities
- Provide course training documentation, lesson plans, student assessments and evaluations to the Course Director
- Input entries in Student Record Book (SRB) for the purpose of preparing course reports, counselling, etc.
- Assist the Course Director / Section in Charge (IC) in counselling students on their performance
- Invigilate exams
- Participate in course design and development activities, including, but not limited to, attending Writing Boards, updating course Optimized Timetables, and drafting Master Lesson Plans
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) as needed
- Provide instruction of practical and theoretical knowledge of electronic principles,
- including DC, AC, and solid state
- Teach optical theory including mounts and quadrants, Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV), M777, generator theory and repair
- Instruct USQs, such aLeo FoV, M777, Mobile Air Conditioners, as required
- Explain how to use and interpret the findings on the different diagnostics tools such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes, while being cognizant of the different generations
- Use advanced teaching software programs such as OLPHY, NGRAIN and MultiSim
Qualifications
- Must hold a Regular Force QL5 EO Tech (QL3, DP2, RQ Cpl) Certificate
OR
- Junior Leaders Course (JLC) or Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ)

- Advanced Instructional Techniques (AIT) or equivalent
AND
- One (1) of the following:
Graduation from a two (2) year college Electronic Technician, Electromechanical, Engineering, Technology (Mechatronics), or equivalent diploma program offered by a recognized technical institute
OR
- A qualified electronic instructor with at least two (2) years of verifiable teaching experience
ALSO
- Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Electronics or Optronics repair
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching adults in the last ten (10) years

- You will be required to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
