Job summary

A global leader in inspection and certification is seeking an Electrical Inspector for a short-term contract in North Bay, Canada. The role focuses on inspecting electrical, communication, and instrumentation installations on construction projects to ensure compliance with safety standards and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, relevant certifications, and at least 5 years of experience in electrical inspections, especially in pipeline or industrial settings. The contract runs from June 30 until the end of July.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical inspections on pipelines or industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge and experience with industry processes and procedures.
  • API 1184 and API 1169 is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and inspect electrical installations on construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety plans and contractor practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project personnel.

Job Description

The Electrical Inspector is the Company’s authorized representative and is to inspect all electrical, communication, and instrumentation installations on construction projects and ensure such installations are performed in accordance with Company drawings, plans, specifications and the terms of the construction contract or agreement. This project is an HVAC upgrade. This is a short-term contract for about 20 days from June 30th until the end of July approximatively.

Responsibilities
  • Using stop work authority, will immediately stop work activity, and notify Contractor supervision of unsafe conditions and/or acts and ensure all site personnel are aware of their obligation to do so as well.
  • Ensure that the contractor is implementing their Site‑Specific Safety Plan.
  • Review and understand contractor Safe Work Practices & Job Safety/Hazard Analysis for the work they are assigned to oversee and hold contractor accountable to execute the work to the per the procedures. This includes participation in daily tailgate/tailboard meetings and fi eld level hazard assessments (FLHA).
  • Oversee the electrical inspection staff, where required, to ensure compliance (e.g., drawings, specifications, codes, standards, regulations, contractors’ site‑specific quality plan/contract).
  • Ensure ITPs are completed as the work is being progressed and relevant documentation is reviewed and accepted by the client.
  • Work with the contractor to ensure that stakeholder and local community commitments within their scope are tracked and implemented.
  • Work with the contractor to ensure that the client's electrical specification requirements are implemented.
  • Create and foster a positive work environment and a proactive/mature safety culture with the inspection staff.
  • Monitor electrical work and as required influence corrective action(s) with the Contractor or inspection staff.
  • Identify construction electrical and/or safety non‑conformance issues and notify the Construction Manager.
  • Provide technical leadership, expertise, and guidance to the project personnel.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Records management associated with construction electrical documentation.
  • Identify innovation and value creation opportunities related to construction electrical aspects.
  • Participation in lessons learned and close‑out meeting(s).
  • Participation in site safety and quality walk downs and note any discrepancies.
  • Complete the daily inspection reports in accordance with applicable Company Inspection Standards.
Qualifications
  • Certified Engineering Technologist in Electrical Engineering or Engineering degree & Red seal Journeyman;
  • API 1184 and API 1169 is preferred, not a requirement.
  • Must have experience with MCC, PLC, VFD, automation, and controls.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical inspections on pipelines or industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge and experience with industry processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other locations or client location may be required from time to time.Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.

  • This is a short-term contract in the Niagara region (Blackstone) from June 30 until the end of July approximatively.
