Job description
Overview

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer / Technologist / Specialist to join a fast-paced, brownfield-focused EPC environment. This role is critical for alleviating technical workload from the Engineering Manager and ensuring timely delivery across multiple small-scale projects. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on contributor with strong low-voltage experience, mentoring capabilities, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, client-facing setting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and review control system architectures with electrical/control overlap.
  • Design electrical systems including power generation and distribution, switchgear and MCCs, communication and grounding systems, and heat trace layouts and schedules.
  • Generate construction drawings such as panel layouts and schematics for control, distribution, and lighting, single-line diagrams, area classification and grounding drawings, cable routing and schedules, and building layouts.
  • Perform electrical calculations per CEC/NEC and other applicable standards.
  • Prepare bid evaluations, RFQs, and construction packages.
  • Review engineering deliverables for completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Provide post-commissioning technical support.
  • Interface with clients and vendors, and represent the company in HAZOPs, FATs, LOPA reviews, and technical sessions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technologists.
  • Support the electrical design and drafting team.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects typically valued between $20K–$250K in engineering costs.
Essential Skills
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience (15+ preferred).
  • Strong low-voltage experience (≤750V).
  • EPC experience in mid-to-small project environments such as oil batteries, well pads, and pipelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong verbal English communication skills.
  • Client-facing and mentoring experience.
  • Willingness to work in-office at least 4 days per week.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with control system architecture.
  • Familiarity with medium-voltage systems.
  • Experience in small Greenfield projects (not large facilities).
  • Flexibility for occasional remote work.
  • Familiarity with heat trace design and schedules.
Work Environment

The work environment is based in a downtown office with a team-oriented atmosphere, encouraging feedback and open communication with senior staff. The setting is easy-going with limited hierarchies, and team activities such as bowling and softball are common. The office features a games room with beverages. The role requires in-office work at least 4 days a week, with one flex day available.

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, Alberta.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.
