Job summary

A leading engineering firm seeks an experienced Electrical Designer in the Transportation sector. The role involves developing electrical designs for various projects, conducting detailed calculations, and coordinating with internal teams and external consultants. Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree and at least 2 years of experience in design consultancy, particularly in lighting systems. This hybrid position is based in York Region, Markham.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in detailed design and consultancy.
• Knowledge of IES-RP-8 and lighting standards.
• Experience in Transportation and Transit projects is essential.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Transportation electrical team of the Building sector.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor

• Develop and prepare detailed designs for transportation electrical systems using AutoCAD and/or Microstation

• Conduct detailed calculations such as voltage drop, photometrics, conductor and conduit sizing, and grounding to ensure that designs meet relevant engineering standards and applicable codes

• Perform complete lighting analysis using AGi32

• Develop traffic signal design and layouts

• Design of electrical layouts for cable raceways/underground conduits, lighting, panel schedules design, lighting poles and base details, luminaire schedule, electrical grounding

• Preparing Contract documents, including specifications and cost estimates

• Perform site visits and contract administration

What your experience looks like

• An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited University

• Minimum of (2) years continuous experience in detailed design and design consultancy

• Knowledge of IES-RP-8 and Roadway lighting and Parking lot lighting

• Previous experience in Transportation and Transit projects is a must

• Experience with advanced lighting design tools (AGi32 and Autolux)

• Knowledge of various municipal and MTO lighting and traffic signal design standards

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required

• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and SPIDACalc

• Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (OESC, CSA, OBC, NFPA, AREMA and IEEE standards)

• RAQS certification would be considered as an asset
