Job description

EMPLOYER: ORACLE Outreach Collaborative Perinatal Care

JOB DESCRIPTION:

ORACLE is a community-rooted midwifery care program offering inclusive, relationship-based sexual, reproductive, and newborn health care through an outreach model. Our services include perinatal care (pregnancy, birth, and postpartum), abortion and miscarriage support, testing and treatment for sexually-transmitted and bloodborne infections (STBBI), sexual health education, and access to safer sex supplies and contraception. We have the privilege of working alongside individuals and families who bring incredible resilience, knowledge, and strength as they navigate diverse life circumstances. Many of our clients are Indigenous and/or have lived experiences with substance use, mental wellness challenges, housing precarity, interpersonal violence, or involvement with child welfare or justice systems. While our clients come from many backgrounds, the majority are Indigenous, and we honour the strength, resistance, and cultural richness of Indigenous communities in the face of ongoing colonial impacts. At the core of ORACLE is a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approach. We recognize that health and healing are deeply connected to autonomy, dignity, and community. We celebrate the power, adaptability, and wisdom that our clients and their communities demonstrate every day.

Job Overview: The Indigenous Outreach Coordinator manages coordination, outreach and essential administrative duties for ORACLE clients. We are seeking someone grounded in the principles of non-judgmental, person-centered care, with a strong commitment to meeting people where they are. Our clients are diverse, resilient, and bring valuable lived experience as they navigate systemic barriers such as racism, colonialism, poverty, and housing insecurity. While a significant portion of this work involves supporting Indigenous clients, the role is not limited to Indigenous communities. A demonstrated commitment to cultural safety, cultural humility, and working in ways that respect and reflect the wisdom, strengths, and autonomy of each individual is essential. This role requires someone who is skilled in building trust, navigating complex systems, and staying grounded in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Strong communication, organization, and a deep commitment to equity, social justice, and community-led support are key. This role involves walking alongside individuals as they define and pursue their own goals—providing thoughtful, consistent support while amplifying their voices and recognizing their capacities.

Responsibilities and Duties: The Indigenous Outreach Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the support needs of ORACLE clients are met within the boundaries of the program. This work will be directed and supported by the midwives. The responsibilities and duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

● Keeping up-to-date contact information about clients

● Assisting clients in making and attending appointments, including client reminders and arranging transportation as needed

● Coordinating referrals to various clinical and community services, such as the Perinatal Mental Health Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital or doula services (e.g., Aunties on the Road)

● Familiarity with Indigenous service providers and community resources in Ottawa;

● Advocacy and practical support for clients in accessing housing, social assistance, treatment, etc.

● Cultural support where requested by Indigenous clients

● Maintaining resource list and awareness of community supports

● Sourcing supplies and equipment for ORACLE as needed

● Soliciting and managing donations, and

● Other program needs, as assigned

Qualifications:

● This position is designated for a First Nation, Métis, or Inuk applicant

● Social services degree or equivalent experience working in high-volume / high-needs outreach and/or administrative positions (e.g., street outreach, community-based social service agencies, etc)

● Aligned with principles of harm reduction, cultural humility, decolonization, and non-judgmental approaches to care and

● Two years’ experience in front-line outreach community support services, ideally in the context of perinatal health, as well as sexual and reproductive health

Time Commitment: Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a 17.5-hour per week contract position running until September 30, 2025, with the possibility of an extension. Please send your cover letter and resume to boardchair@oracleoutreach.ca
