Temporary Part-Time Educational Assistant

Location: Dorothy Dalgliesh School

Anticipated Start Date: September 29, 2025 (or date mutually agreeable)

End Date: June 26, 2026

Assignment: Educational Assistant (EA)

FTE: 324 annual hours

Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary certificate or recognized vocational certificate in child care/development or behaviour management with demonstrated successful practicum experience working with students with special needs
  • Other equivalent combinations of directly related education and directly related experience may also be considered
  • Experience in an inclusive learning environment is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates (Child CPR Certificate is a strong asset)
Responsibilities
  • Provides educational instruction for students and supports students with accessing technology.
  • Contributes to planning the student’s Individual Program Plan (IPP). Participates as a member of the student’s learning team in periodic meetings with the student, parents/guardians to review goals and develop revisions. Collects data to support student growth and IPP development.
  • Maintains an effective professional working relationship within the student’s learning team, offering suggestions to the Teacher on ways to help students reach their goals.
  • Communicates with parents and learning team members to share information and receive updates that may impact the student’s progress.
  • Facilitates and encourages the development of the student’s self-esteem and independence through established programs and techniques appropriate for the individual student.
  • Encourages positive social interaction among students.
  • Provides personal care as required (e.g., toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming) ensuring student dignity; assists with physical needs including lifting and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures student safety in the school and community, including supervision, sanitizing and storage of equipment, managing and supporting students during breaks or field trips, and assisting with life skills tools as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates patience, support, and enthusiasm for students.
  • Maintains collegial relationships with the student’s learning team.
  • Works with students in various school and community settings, including supervision during breaks or field trips as required.
  • Assists with sanitizing educational tools and cleanup in the classroom after spills or accidents.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Requirements for Applicants
  • Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN must be in current legal name and match Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check
  • Government issued ID (valid driver’s license, valid passport or Nexus card)
