Overview

GFL Environmental is looking for full-time AZ/DZ Emergency Response Operators to support our liquid line of business out of our Thunder Bay, Ontario site.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Emergency Response Operator will respond to various incidents such as:
  • Environmental and Industrial spills
  • Clandestine laboratory decommissioning
  • Highway incidents involving tractor trailers, accidents, and chemical leaks
  • Train derailments involving hazardous chemicals, fires, and site safety planning
  • Marine operations mostly regarding fuel spills into open bodies of water, involving boom deployment and boat operations
  • Weather event responses involving wind/ice storms, forest fires, and flooding
  • Chemical assessments and advisory services
  • Working alongside police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders
  • Incidents involving heavy equipment, vacuum trucks, and water blasters
  • Collection of hazardous and non-hazardous goods
  • Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required
  • Completing work related documentation and reporting
  • Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others; reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act
  • Participate in team/staff meetings when required
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk
