Director of Care (DOC)

This position is for our Extendicare Timmins home, located in Timmins, Ontario.

What You’ll Be Doing

  1. Plan, organize, direct, and supervise the activities of the Nursing Department to provide quality resident care along with other nursing leads and Directors of Care (DOC).
  2. Interpret nursing philosophy and establish and implement goals and objectives, policies, and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  3. Liaise and consult with families/residents, government officials, company resources, and professionals regarding resident care needs and department activities.
  4. Work alongside a team to manage the day-to-day operations of the home.
  5. Be responsible for clinical programming, audits, and oversee programs such as Falls, Care Plans, Resident Safety, and Resident Care Coordinating Committee programs.
  6. Manage staffing risk issues to ensure risks are mitigated and immediate action is taken on high-risk events.
  7. Maintain an active presence in Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
  8. Collaborate with other Directors of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  9. Identify areas for staff development and work with DOCs to ensure the overall effectiveness of the nursing department.
  10. Oversee and manage staff and work with unions.
  11. Advocate for ethical and effective practices organization-wide.
  12. Focus on Resident-Centered Care needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies.
  13. Participate in on-call responsibilities as per schedule.

What You Bring

  1. Registered Nurse registered with College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN is an asset.
  2. Minimum of three years experience in long-term care; previous management experience is an asset.
  3. Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education, and quality improvement.
  4. Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
