Overview

The Director of Care is responsible for the overall management of nursing and personal care services within our home. This includes leadership and supervision of registered and non-registered staff. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are essential. The DOC is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of care and services within our Home. Under the direction of the DOC, the Manager leads care teams in attaining the goals and objectives for the Care program.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for setting goals for the nursing service.
  • Setting standards of resident care, involving residents whenever possible.
  • Development and implementation of nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Preparation and management of the nursing services budget, according to facility policies.
  • Development of a human resource plan for the service with consideration of the appropriate mix of professional and support staff to meet the needs of the resident population.
  • Selection, placement, promotion, transfer, termination of nursing staff according to the facility's policies.
  • Ensuring that all nursing staff receive regular written performance appraisals.
  • Conducting and guiding the program to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of nursing service.
  • Ensuring the competency of staff by a process of identification, current certification and / or recertification for the performance of specific nursing skills.
  • Plans, coordinates, support and promotion of the orientation, staff development and continuing education of nursing staff.
  • Participation in decision making at the senior management level.
  • Promoting liaison, cooperation, and coordination of services / programs with community agencies and other health care providers.
  • Responsible for reviewing applications for admission in conjunction with the Administrator.
  • Confers with the Medical Advisory Physician and initiates required nursing practices and procedures.
