Our Calgary head office location is seeking an experienced leader to support our diverse and expanding airport and FBO operations. This position as Director, Airports & FBO Operations reports directly to the Vice President, Operations and is based at either the Calgary or Edmonton office, with frequent travel to operational sites.

Description

The Director, Airports and FBO Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of EFC Aviation’s airport and Fixed Base Operator (FBO) operations. This role provides senior-level oversight of airport & FBO site leaders and ensures safe, efficient, customer-focused, and financially disciplined operations across all airport locations.

Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight to airport and FBO site leaders across a region of EFC airport and FBO locations.
  • Establish clear operational objectives aligned with EFC’s corporate strategy and ensure accountability for results.
  • Drive consistency, standardization, and best practices across all airports and FBO operations.
  • Lead operational planning to support growth, new business opportunities, and contract mobilizations.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with EFC’s Safety Management System (SMS) and KPI dashboard target requirements.
  • Oversee safety performance KPIs, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure all regulatory, legislative and industry standards are adhered to including Transport Canada, Canada Labour Code and OH& S regulations, standards, and practices.
  • Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
  • Champion and ensure operational alignment with the organization’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, embedding ESG considerations into processes, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives.
Airport & FBO Operations Oversight
  • Oversee all day-to-day airport and FBO operations
  • Ensure adequate staffing, equipment, and facilities are in place.
  • Provide escalation support for operational disruptions and customer issues.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, site specific and customer policies and procedures, including EFC’s Safety Management System, Ground Operations Manual, Fueling Operations Manual and Employee Handbook.
Financial, Administrative & Business Performance
  • Oversee development, management, and performance of all operating budgets.
  • Lead all RFP responses and pricing initiatives in partnership with the VP Operations.
  • Direct operational planning for new business startups.
  • Manage all leases, contracts, and pricing updates.
  • Support site leaders with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost control.
  • Approve major operational expenditures within delegated authority.
People Leadership
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Develop and retain operational leadership talent.
  • Promote a high-performance and accountable culture.
Customer & Stakeholder Relations
  • Maintain strong relationships with airport authorities and key customers.
  • Ensure service delivery meets contractual commitments.
  • Support operational aspects of RFP responses.
Training & Operational Excellence
  • Oversee all airport and FBO training certification compliance, and recurrent training requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Responsible for planning and administration of training programs for EFC operations.
General Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Vice President and executive team on strategy and special projects.
  • Travel frequently to operational sites.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
Experience And Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Aviation, Business, or Operations Management preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years aviation experience with airport or FBO operations exposure.
  • An understanding of ramp and fueling procedures is a key asset.
  • Minimum 5 years senior management experience.
  • Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal skills, to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team.
  • Strong regulatory, financial, and leadership capabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
