Job description

The Database Administrator is a key member of the JDI IT team supporting the J.D. Irving group of companies in the creation, maintenance, and changes to key organizational data.

You will be supporting upwards of 300 instances and thousands of databases, playing a crucial role in managing and maintaining the MSSQL environment in a large-scale setting. We seek a collaborative multitasker who thrives in complex scenarios and communicates effectively across IT and business teams.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities
  • Assist in production promotion by running scripts according to change management processes
  • Maintain databases and participate in on-call support rotation
  • Assess and report on environment trends to prevent performance issues
  • Provide Tier II application support and document issue resolutions
  • Raise clarifications for requirements or technical constraints
  • Communicate effectively with customers and managers about task status
  • Understand Daily Management processes and database metrics
  • Support business development while ensuring system integrity
  • Uphold DBA best practices
Qualifications
  • Education: University degree, college diploma, or related discipline
  • 0-2 years of experience in Database Administration
  • Basic knowledge of Database Administration
  • Effective communication skills with senior leadership
  • Highly organized with good time management
  • Ability to research and write technical documents
  • Attention to detail and technical thinking at the database level
Bonus
  • Experience with Oracle DB, PL/SQL, Oracle Applications, WebLogic, and data modeling
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle
  • Software installation and maintenance on Linux and Windows servers
  • Programming experience using SQL
  • Certified Oracle Database Administrator or Professional
  • Knowledge of DB2 is an asset
