Business Unit: Company 3

Position: Data IO Vault Technician

Location: Toronto, ON (On-Site)

Hours of Operation: 7:00am – 3:00pm ET

Pay Range: $20.00 CAD hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data IO / Vault Technician is responsible for handling both physical and digital shipping and receiving for a fast-paced, world-renowned Film & Television Post-Production studio. This position is an opportunity to learn about the post-production business and be part of a driven, dynamic, and dedicated team.

MAIN DUTIES

Vault

The Data IO / Vault Technician accurately logs metadata of incoming physical media into the inventory system and barcode elements upon receipt. They will shelve, re-shelve, shift, and re-pack media including, but not limited to film, video tape, and hard drives, and guarantee accurate tracking and shelf location of all in-house physical media.

  • Locate elements for clients, staff, and other C3M business units
  • Securely pull physical media in a timely manner for production use and return elements to vault storage when their use is complete
  • Keep onsite vault organized and retain space for incoming elements
  • Conduct periodic audits of all vault elements to maintain accuracy of database

Shipping

They will be responsible for the security of all outgoing media, pull elements for delivery and arrange for dispatch of couriers or overnight shipments. They will destroy elements as requested by account representatives and assist Studio Operations with asset returns to clients.

Receiving

They will dispatch couriers to pick up physical media, documents, and supplies as requested, take responsibility for secure receipt of all incoming shipments and provide signature as proof, and accurately match shippers to goods received.

  • Promptly notify account representatives of the receipt of incoming media
  • Perform virus scan of all incoming drives
  • Oversee distribution of incoming mail/packages to staff

Data I/O

  • Perform quality assurance tests of files.
  • Maintain logs of completed work orders and inbound files.
  • Identify and troubleshoot network and hardware discrepancies.
  • Receive, log, and track all materials and communicate with production teams on materials received and delivered.
  • Communicate inbound/outbound file deliveries to other departments.

General

  • Answer phones and contact staff and clients concerning receipt, vaulting, and shipment of elements
  • Maintain a tidy, organized workspace as it is visible to all guests, clients, and staff
  • Some physical labor required
  • Other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of common digital file transfer methods, as well as working knowledge of various file formats used in Film & Video post-production. They will have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and execute instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Additional desired skills include:

  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications on Mac & PC. Linux experience a plus.
  • Ability to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Previous experience in a post-production environment is preferred.
  • Color Science and image processing is a plus
  • Production tools including DaVinci Resolve, AutoDesk Flame and Avid is a plus
  • Data Transfer and Archive tools including Yoyotta, Aspera, Mediashuttle, Atempo is a plus
  • General knowledge of Bash or equivalent Unix Shell is a plus
  • Familiar with commonly used production cameras (ARRI, RED, Sony, etc.) is a plus
