Job summary

A healthcare organization in Canada is seeking Registered Nurses for psychiatric services in their Emergency and Intensive Care Units. The ideal candidates will hold registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and have at least two years of experience working with acute mental illness. Responsibilities include conducting various assessments, developing care plans, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team for patient-centered care. Strong communication skills and physical ability are essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant.
  • Canadian Nursing Association certification is an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience working with persons with acute mental illness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to patient/clients in the Psychiatric Emergency Service and Psychiatric Intensive Care Units.
  • Conduct complete mental status and addictions screening assessments.
  • Develop and execute therapeutic care plans in collaboration with health care professionals.

Skills

Demonstrated ability to conduct physical status, mental status and risk assessment
Ability to apply addictions theory and screening/management of withdrawal
Ability to apply crisis intervention and stabilization principles
Ability to apply common screening tools for mental illness and addictions
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability in establishing therapeutic relationships
Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts
Ability to operate related equipment including computers and related software
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Education
