Business Overview

The Corporate Tax Department has an open, dynamic and collaborative environment with a high performance team providing tax consulting, compliance and reporting and planning functions that gives everyone the opportunity to prosper.

Responsibilities

This role is a member of the Corporate Tax team in the Financial and Corporate Services Division and reports to the Vice President, Corporate Tax. The Corporate Tax Manager will have responsibilities in corporate tax compliance, tax support and consulting, as well as a focus on supporting tax audits and resolving tax disputes. Tax compliance responsibilities include reviewing tax provisions and tax returns. These include the preparation/review of income, commodity tax returns, insurance premium tax returns, and transfer pricing responsibilities. Tax support and consulting includes the support for various business units/departments and tax planning. In addition, the Corporate Tax Manager will also be involved in special projects and key strategic initiatives of the organization.

What You Will Do
  • Perform corporate tax work which can include preparing/reviewing tax provisions, income and other tax returns, tax research/tax consulting, tax planning and analysis, leading of tax engagements and managing tax audits.
  • Review of tax processes.
  • You will work on special projects on an as-needed basis.
What We’re Looking For
  • University degree, preferably with focus on finance or accounting or relevant work experience
  • At least two years of corporate tax experience. 4 years of working experience in accounting/tax, corporate tax experience required. Public accounting firm experience (Big 4) preferred. Financial industry and transfer pricing tax experience an asset.
  • CPA or equivalent, or Master of Taxation.
  • Completion of CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Courses Level 1 & 2.

  • You will bring strong leadership, critical thinking, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic approach.
  • Effective communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and good presentation skills including presentation to non-tax persons or senior management on complicated tax matters.
  • You are detailed, results-oriented, proactive and take ownership of you work.
  • You are a quick learner, self-motivated, able to work independently without guidance, curious in asking good questions and “eager to learn” attitude.
  • Strong proficiency with excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, net present value calculations, and complicated formulas including the building of financial models), powerpoint, tax research database (such as CCH Intelliconnect) and Corporate Taxprep software.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS tax accounting standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of income tax legislation and practices with respect to a variety of different types of corporate and other taxes.
  • Positive attitude and team player.
