What is the role?

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will play a dual role, focusing on both Financial and Project Accounting within the Accounting Department. This role involves budgeting, financial reporting, and project cost monitoring, as well as overseeing invoicing, as well as Accounts Receivable and Payables. This role will entail supervising and mentoring of accounting staff. The Controller will collaborate closely with Project Managers, the CFO, and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial operations and compliance. In This Role, Your Duties And Responsibilities Will Include
Financial Reporting
  • Closing of fiscal month-ends and year-ends, including preparation and/or review of working paper files for external auditors.
  • Ensure GL reconciliations are performed on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Review of bank reconciliation and assistance in accounting for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, Errors and Omissions accruals, etc...
  • Prepare Joint Venture financial statements and related documents
  • Preparation of the consolidation worksheet and intercompany reconciliations.
Project Accounting and Job Costing
  • Provide guidance to ensure Project Managers' work follows the Company’s best practices.
  • Communicate with and analyze Estimated Costs to Complete and make revenue recognition/provision recommendations.
  • Provide reports to aid PMs in their assessment of project financial health.
  • Education of PMs on the Accounting system and how to use/interpret financial information in the System.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of project controls to enhance financial risk management.
Statutory Compliance
  • Preparation of monthly remittances (income tax instalments, sales tax and other remittances).
  • Prepare and submit required filings to Statistics Canada.
Budget Coordination and Cash Management
  • Preparation of operating and capital budgets.
  • Cash management, including accounts receivable collections, payable and banking.
  • Preparation of reports required by the Bank.
  • Recording and reconciliation of company share transactions.
The Qualifications You Need
  • A post-secondary degree specializing in Accounting with a minimum 10 years of experience including 5 years in a managerial position.
  • Professional designation: CPA designation (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with an engineering consulting firm.
  • Knowledge of Deltek VantagePoint is a requirement.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A “can-do” attitude and proven accomplishments as a problem-solver.
