Job Title: Casual Continuing Care Assistant (CCA)
Department: Nursing Services
Responsible To: Director of Care or Delegate (RN/LPN)

Purpose:
To provide resident-centered personal care and support that promotes residents' dignity, comfort, and independence within a long-term care setting, in accordance with facility policies, professional standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and elimination needs.

Monitor and record residents' vital signs and promptly report changes to nursing staff.

Support residents' comfort, safety, and wellbeing by maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Communicate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Assist with safe lifts, transfers, and use of mobility aids as per individualized care plans.

Follow infection prevention and control practices consistently during all care activities.

Document care provided and observations accurately and timely, following facility policies and procedures.

Respond to residents' needs promptly and compassionately.

Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.

Perform other related duties as required to support residents' care and facility operations.

Equipment Used:
Mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, walkers, bathing equipment, medical monitoring devices, computers for documentation.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed throughout the facility, requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repositioning of residents. Must be able to assist residents with varying levels of mobility and cognitive ability.

Qualifications:

Valid Continuing Care Assistant Certificate or Provincial Personal Care Worker course or equivalent.

Registration with the Nova Scotia CCA Registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act.

Current certification in CPR and First Aid.

Proof of entry into PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) or completion of the skills development portion of an LPN or CCA program in Nova Scotia (if applicable).

Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, resident-centered care.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Physical ability to meet the demands of the position.

Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening.

Completion of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care course considered an asset.

Previous experience in long-term care considered an asset.
