Job summary

A construction consultancy is seeking a Construction Inspector to oversee municipal infrastructure projects in the Greater Toronto Area. The role involves coordinating contractors, inspecting material quality, and preparing progress reports. Ideal candidates should have relevant designations such as OACETT RCSI or PEO E.I.T., and possess strong communication skills. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work of the contractor on municipal infrastructure construction projects.
  • Coordinate with the contractor for confirming survey, layout and construction.
  • Review the quality and type of materials delivered to sites.
  • Provide inspection of various items in accordance with specifications.
  • Verify quantities and prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Work with the Contract Administrator on Site Instructions and Change Orders.
  • Maintain daily diaries for references and payment purposes.
  • Provide input on claims including quantities and basis of payment.
  • Coordinate surveying and materials testing staff.
  • Prepare weekly construction reports.

Skills

Knowledge of requirements for acquiring professional design and construction services
Skill in negotiating, writing and interpreting contractual terms
Ability to effectively communicate
Good working knowledge of PCs and computerized applications related to the work

Education

Job description
Construction Inspector

CFA has openings for the upcoming construction season at various locations across the GTA and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of the contractor on municipal infrastructure construction projects throughout GTA and surrounding areas (e.g. roads, bridges, transit & rail facilities, watermains, sewers and pumping stations/ reservoirs).
  • Coordinate with the contractor for confirming survey, layout and construction within required tolerances.
  • Review the quality and type of materials delivered to sites as well as the methods and finished products to ensure conformance with designs and specifications.
  • Provide inspection of various items in accordance with the specifications.
  • Verify quantities, prepare monthly progress reports for work completed by the contractor for payment and work with the client to ensure proper preparation of Payment Certificates.
  • Work with the Contract Administrator to prepare and issue Site Instructions, and Change Orders.
  • Maintain daily diaries for references and payment purposes.
  • Provide input on claims including quantities, basis of payment and entitlement.
  • Coordinate surveying and materials testing staff.
  • Prepare weekly construction reports.
