We are looking for a Construction Engineer to join our team in Toronto, Canada for a dynamic and fast paced new role for the OnCorr Project at Alstom Canada.

The Construction Engineer shall be the point of contact for all external Suppliers and Contractors, perform administrative duties related to the management and operation of the Construction sites, facilities and always respecting safety requirements and policies in relation to EHS.

What are the responsibilities?
  • Manage external contractors related to construction activities for the project.
  • Monitor contractor Quality & Performance in accordance with established objectives and goals.
  • Manage work for new implementations or evolutions that impact infrastructure, buildings, energy supply and facilities according to the budget dedicated to each of the responsibilities.
  • Support the construction activities for new projects along the Lake shore East and West Corridors.
  • Seek to continuously improve processes, systems and operational activities
  • Assist management and staff with operational reporting, budgeting, & procurement activities as necessary
  • Assist with the coordination and scheduling of maintenance activities as needed
  • Assist with compliance program requests, analysis and reporting
  • Contribute to weekly schedule review meetings
  • Lead weekly progress meetings with key stakeholders
  • Create various work methods statements or Scopes of work (SOW)
  • Prepare readiness review meetings (4M's) and manage EHS compliance/ trainings prior to commencement of all work
  • Key User of the Construction management software to track field activities progress/ status
  • Assists in the procurement of supplies and services as required,
  • Performs regular site walkthroughs to ensure a clean, safe, well-maintained and organized environment
  • Occasional weekend and after hour support may be required at times
MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES
Educational Requirements
  • Experienced Construction background, Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering background an asset
Desired Knowledge /Experience
  • 5 years in similar positions.
  • Management: Sense of urgency and ability to make decisions and prioritize. Results oriented.
  • Organization: Planning and development of activities with order and method.
  • Operational: Operational efficiency, teamwork, transparent communication, innovation.

  • EHS administrative knowledge
  • Specific knowledge of buildings and installations (Greenfield/ Brownfield Construction Experience, Mechanical Equipment, Machinery, HVAC, Electricity)
  • Experience working with external Suppliers & Contractors in a construction environment
  • Familiar with managing field activities on site.
Working Conditions
  • Office setting including a mix of indoor and outdoor construction sites
  • Able and flexible to travel along the Lakeshore East (Whitby) and West (Oakville) Corridors as needed to support ongoing projects
