Compounding Process Engineer

The Opportunity:

We’re looking for a highly dedicated and motivated Chemical Engineer to join our operations team. The Chemical Engineer will provide expertise to ensure chemical formulations and processes are efficient, the quality of the product is consistently high, and the environmental impact is minimized. The incumbent is a driven individual with a desire for problem solving; and is able to navigate complex challenges, and promoting effective solutions independently.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Controlled operation of processing units is functioning as per industry standards, reliable, robust and are optimized.
  • Support the Compounding area of the business, review and implement process control strategies, monitor GMP compliance, equipment capabilities, and ensure equipment maintenance and calibration are performed as per industry standards.
  • Onboarding of new formulations and ensuring they are delivered to the packaging equipment on time and within specification.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of all requirements under provincial regulations
  • Working with the Compounding Manager, ensure CIP systems parameters are respected (Flow, Temperature, Conductivity, Time) on consistent basis. Apply corrective and preventative actions to maintain sustainability.
  • Working with the Plant Manager, and Quality Manager to root cause and implement corrective and preventative measures.
  • Continuous Improvement tasks include identification of loss and waste, establish and implement sustainability process/practices/measures to facilitate benchmarking activities (e.g. OOS investigations, tracking, identify variances and resolution requirements).
  • Responsible for cost management as it relates to the scope of the position – not limited to standardization, utilities, chemical consumption, batch yields and waste.
  • Improve efficiencies in batch timing, batch accuracy, reduce opportunities for batch failure, or correction.
  • Work with R&D Departments during trial runs of new formulations to ensure manufacturability.
  • Investigate and lead new capital projects that support cost savings, improve efficiencies, improve ergonomics and capacity
  • Investigate new automation opportunities
  • Champion best in class or new technologies and implement in the compounding department.
  • Support and maintain GMPs, environmental, legislative, quality and safety standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
  • 5+ Years of experience in chemical engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Continuous improvement and troubleshooting skills, error proofing processes
  • Understanding process components: material flow, pumps, motor loads
  • Experience in food or chemical production a plus
  • Technical writing skills for work instructions, SOPs, etc.
  • Ability to design using CAD software
  • HACCP, GMP experience
  • Asset management (cradle to grave) expertise
  • Ability to work and influence cross functionally to achieve common goals.
  • Proven success supporting GMPs, environmental, legislative (federal and provincial), quality and safety standards.
